Stress is the New Normal: Why Wellness Is No Longer Optional
I have always been drawn to the idea of wellness. To me, it is an art, the art of being well, and it’s something that was quietly taught to me in childhood.
The world moves fast. Even then, my mother used practices passed down from her grandmother to steady her nervous system. At the time, I didn’t recognise what was happening. I didn’t question it. I simply absorbed it.
"The mind is constantly processing information. Sleep is fragmented. Stress has quietly become the baseline"
Now, in my mid-thirties, I feel how difficult it can be to truly relax. Especially when my energy is low. Creating a personal wellbeing routine no longer feels optional. It feels necessary.
For a long time, I thought I was alone in this. Living in a frantic world, struggling to slow down. I noticed myself becoming irritable. Struggling to fall asleep. Feeling restless even when I was exhausted.
But through conversations with others
Senior nurses,
Consultant doctors,
And creative professionals like graphic and web designers, I realised this experience is widespread. Relaxation has become a challenge. The mind is constantly processing information.
Sleep is fragmented.
Stress has quietly become the baseline, and stress, when left unchecked, shows up in the body.

While I’ve been on my own journey towards reducing stress and learning how to be well, this process is also shaping something larger. It’s informing a future bathhouse. And, eventually, a magazine I’ve long felt called to create.
I don’t yet know exactly how it will all unfold. What I do know is that there is no plan C.
Many of us are riding the high of stress, mistaking it for productivity or success, without realising the long-term cost to the body.
Here, I’ll be sharing reflections on the elements of being well, explorations that help me slow my thinking, narrow my focus to build OriēnMir, and return to what matters.
Balance.
